      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel 2 дні тому

      Thanks for your comment! 😊 3M Nano Ceramic Tint is indeed a fantastic option for window treatment. It provides excellent heat reduction and UV protection while maintaining the view. However, it serves a different purpose compared to cellular and roller shades. While tints are great for managing sunlight and enhancing energy efficiency, shades offer added benefits like privacy, light control, and aesthetic versatility. Combining both could give you the best of both worlds! 🌞🪟 If you have any more questions or need advice on window treatments, feel free to ask!

      I'm really sorry to hear about the issues you're facing with your Hardie board siding. It must be incredibly frustrating, especially given the age of your home and the warranty situation. Unfortunately, fiber cement siding can sometimes have these problems due to various factors like installation errors, environmental conditions, or material defects. It's disappointing to hear that the warranty service and installer was not helpful. It's always frustrating when companies like that give products and industries a bad name with their subpar practices. Thank you for sharing your experience here. It helps others be more informed and cautious about their choices. If you have any other questions or need further information, feel free to ask!

    When a Home Foundation Inspection is done. Where should they place the Zip Level to take accurate measurements. Based on 2 Companies that have given me Estimates, they took the measurements at different places. The Front Door entrance measurements stated we need repair while the 2nd Company took measurements from about center of my home & stated no repair is needed. Who is giving me the correct information prior to replacing our Roof? Thank you

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel 9 днів тому

      Thank you for your detailed question! The placement of the Zip Level during a home foundation inspection can indeed affect the results. Generally, a comprehensive inspection should include multiple measurement points throughout the house, not just at one specific location. Front Door Measurements: These are important as they can reveal issues with how your house is settling. If there's a significant drop or rise here, it could indicate foundation problems. Center of the Home Measurements: These can provide a more balanced view of the overall foundation health. If the center shows no issues, it might suggest that any problems are localized rather than systemic. The most accurate assessments typically come from using multiple points of reference to get a complete picture of the foundation's condition. It might be beneficial to consult with a third company for another opinion or ask for a detailed explanation from both companies on why their measurement points were chosen. Before making a major decision like replacing your roof, it's crucial to have a clear understanding of your foundation's health. Hope this helps, and best of luck with your home repairs!

      Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm really sorry to hear about the issues you've faced with your fiber cement siding. It sounds frustrating to deal with cracking, discoloration, and boards coming off, especially so soon after installation. The quality and longevity of fiber cement siding can depend on several factors including the installation process, climate, and maintenance. If these boards were not installed correctly or if they're exposed to extreme weather conditions, problems like the ones you're experiencing can unfortunately arise. @TheHomeSolutionsChannel 14 днів тому

      Thank you for your comment! You're absolutely right; hydrostatic pressure can be a significant issue under a garage floor when applying polyurea coatings. It can lead to moisture problems and affect the adhesion of the coating. Ensuring proper moisture barriers and addressing any potential hydrostatic pressure before application is crucial for a successful and long-lasting coating. What if house is hillside and theres settlement 2-3" downhill. No large cracks below but floor tile in house is cracked in several rooms-House built in 47. Is that settlement or sinking?

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel 14 днів тому

      Thanks for your question! It sounds like your house might be experiencing settlement, especially given its hillside location and age. Cracked floor tiles can be a sign of this. Settlement often causes gradual shifts, while sinking is more severe. Even without large cracks below, the differential settlement you mentioned could be causing those tile cracks. It’s best to consult a structural engineer to assess the situation and recommend the right course of action.

    Kind of a lame video, kind of seems like a back door ad for polyurea. All the "some epoxies" disclaimers. Of course there is some truth to the video but a proper install with diamond abrasion and quality epoxy is a no brainer, Epoxy, of course, is a problematic coating is a problem outdoors. UV is an enemy of any epoxy. So outdoors is no good unless properly coated with a UV coating every so many years. I would argue almost nothing lasts in the sun, As for the heat from hot tires, not really a problem but, usually epoxy is final coated with a two part Urethane that is really, really tough when allowed to cure. Wait the days for the epoxy floor to cure!

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel Місяць тому

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We appreciate your insights and understand your perspective. Our goal with this video was to highlight common issues that can arise with epoxy floor coatings, especially when not installed or maintained properly. You are absolutely right that a proper installation with diamond abrasion and quality epoxy can yield excellent results. Additionally, the use of a UV coating for outdoor applications and a final coat of two-part urethane can significantly enhance the durability and longevity of an epoxy floor. Our mention of polyurea was intended to provide viewers with an alternative option that addresses some of the specific issues associated with epoxy. However, we agree that both materials have their pros and cons, and the best choice often depends on the specific use case and installation process. Thank you for contributing to the discussion and providing valuable information for our viewers!

    Hello. If the garage is from a new build as we are the first owners and garage has no wear at all, Is the diamond grinding still necessary?

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel Місяць тому

      Hey Taylor! Thanks for the question. For a new garage floor, diamond grinding is still essential. It ensures the coating adheres properly by creating a rough texture which enhances the bond between the coating and the concrete. Removing contaminants that can affect adhesion. And opening concrete pores, allowing the coating to penetrate and bond more effectively, which is essential for the durability and longevity of the coating. Skipping this step can lead to peeling or cracking.

      Thanks for your input about polyurea coatings! You're spot on-moisture can really cause issues, like blistering and poor sticking, especially on surfaces that hold water, such as foam. It's crucial to apply it on a completely dry surface and in a dry setting. If you're dealing with moist areas or materials, other types of coatings might work better. • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel Місяць тому

      Good question! If a new homeowner prefers a different color for the polyurea-coated floor, they can easily re-coat it with a new color of polyurea. The existing coating just needs to be properly prepped-usually cleaned and lightly sanded-before applying the new layer. This makes polyurea a versatile option for anyone looking to personalize their space. Thanks for your question!

    Is it normal for very light cracks the first few years in a new build here in Texas

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel Місяць тому

      It's common to see very light cracks in new construction during the first few years, especially in Texas. Our soil often expands and contracts due to temperature changes and varying moisture levels, which can cause minor settling cracks. However, it's important to monitor the cracks over time. If they widen, appear at an angle, or are accompanied by other signs like sticking doors or sloping floors, it's best to consult a professional for a thorough evaluation to ensure your foundation remains stable. Let me know if you have any further questions.

    I have a house full of Endure Pro Via windows, all with one piece, framed screens. How would I remove a screen?

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel Місяць тому

      ProVia screens typically have a spring mechanism on one side. Here's how to remove and reinsert them: 1. Identify the Components: On the screen, you'll find a small lip on the right side and springs on the inside of the left side. 2. Removing the Screen: Push the screen to the right to compress the springs. Wiggle the screen gently out of the frame. 3. Reinserting the Screen: First, place the spring side into the left side of the window frame. Push to the left to compress the springs, then align the right side of the screen and set it into the frame. I hope this helps. There are some screen thats may have the lip on the bottom and you need to lift up to compress the springs.

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel Місяць тому

      Great question! Vinyl siding doesn't rot, but if water gets through any gaps, it can cause the wood underneath to rot. Wood siding can rot if it's not maintained, especially in humid places like San Antonio. If you want something that doesn’t rot at all, consider James Hardie Fiber Cement siding, which we talked about in the video. It’s made to handle moisture really well. Thanks for your question!

      @@TheHomeSolutionsChannel isn't the Hardie board what you see on lots of yard barns? It seems to root in my area.

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel Місяць тому

      James Hardie fiber cement siding is indeed used on sheds and barns sometimes, but it shouldn't rot when properly installed. Unlike wood, it's made from cement, sand, and cellulose fibers, making it resistant to moisture, pests, and rot. If you're noticing rot issues, it might be due to improper installation, maintenance or prolonged water exposure. For example, water pooling against the base or seeping into gaps can cause the siding to swell, deteriorate, or lead to mold growth. To ensure maximum durability, it's essential that the siding is properly installed with adequate sealing and maintained to keep it performing at its best. We're happy to help with any concerns to ensure your siding performs at its best. Thanks for bringing this up!

This is indeed something to consider when choosing between vinyl and fiberglass. Vinyl windows, particularly those with extruded colors, do offer the advantage of color stability and low maintenance, as they don't require painting. It's important for homeowners to consider how much maintenance they're willing to undertake and the aesthetic they prefer for their home's exterior. If anyone is weighing these options, it’s crucial to consider the climate and the home’s exposure to elements, as these factors can affect the longevity and performance of both vinyl and fiberglass windows. For more detailed comparisons, you might find our video on the long-term costs and benefits of different window materials helpful: ua-cam.com/video/uMEsq7VDe-Y/v-deo.htmlsi=zTEp6GSTPXUnLh_h Thanks again for your comment, and feel free to ask more questions or share your experiences!

    Me personally i hate epoxy floors and if your plan is too sell the house i wouldnt do epoxy, it chips, you get bubbles, and it can be pretty costly depending on the size if it doesn’t hold not all epoxys stick to concrete some will create a layer on top which thans leads to the cracks but overall epoxy floors crack regardless

      Thank you for sharing your perspective on epoxy flooring, and for highlighting some important considerations for those thinking about this option. You're absolutely right that epoxy can present challenges such as chipping, bubbling, and cracking, especially if not applied correctly or if the underlying concrete isn't prepared properly. These are key points for anyone considering this type of flooring, particularly if they plan to sell their home in the future.

    Seal failure is seal failure … how can we say there’s minor seal failure? The gas is gone either way

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel 2 місяці тому

      Thank you for pointing out an important aspect of seal failures in windows. You’re right, once the seal fails and the insulating gas escapes, the window's energy efficiency is compromised. When we mention "minor seal failure," we're usually referring to the early signs, such as slight condensation or minimal fogging, which might not be immediately severe but do indicate an issue. It's vital for homeowners to understand that any level of seal failure can affect window performance. This knowledge is crucial when deciding between glass replacement and a full window replacement, especially considering factors like the window's age and the extent of damage. Consulting a professional can provide clearer direction based on your specific situation.

      Thank you for sharing your experience with Hardie Board siding on your home. I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're encountering, especially with loose boards and the need for repainting. It sounds frustrating, especially given that your home is less than ten years old. Loose boards could indicate that there might have been an issue with the installation process, or possibly with the expansion and contraction of the siding due to temperature changes. As for the need to repaint, this could depend on several factors including the initial paint quality, exposure to harsh weather, or other environmental influences. To address these issues, it might be helpful to first consult with a certified installer to inspect the siding and determine if there’s a need for any repairs or if there are underlying problems that need addressing. Additionally, using high-quality paint designed for fiber cement siding and ensuring proper application can extend the lifespan of the paint job. Don’t hesitate to reach out for further assistance. We’re here to help ensure you’re satisfied with your home’s siding.

    Would be good to see comparisons, having the same window with both to really compare. Are there any cases at all where we can make a case for either? For example, for a 71" X 39" "standard" window, I really wonder what it would look like with vertical blinds.

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel 2 місяці тому

      Thank you for the suggestion! Choosing between horizontal and vertical blinds depends on your preference and space needs. Vertical blinds are great for large openings like sliding doors, providing easy access, while horizontal blinds suit smaller windows, enhancing privacy and light control. For a visual, try searching "71" X 39" window with vertical blinds" online. Though often used on doors, vertical blinds can also work well on windows. When selecting blinds, consider the room's layout and function. Mixing both in one area can create a unified look-vertical for large spaces and horizontal for smaller areas. We appreciate your idea and will think about showcasing this flexibility in a future video to help you tailor blinds to your space and style.

    We had a polyurea flooring completed a month ago by a major company in our area. We are also having significant persistant odor/ smell in the two-car garage. We have left the door open for days at times to air it out. we have used fans to blow air and circulate but a strong odor/ fume persists. The company is coming back out to review but seems to indicate this is very unusual or has no clear advice for us. We felt like we did everything right and or that they did. Any advice or experience from others? Do you have to redo it? diff top coat? Re grind and try again? any other remedies highly appreciated, thank you very much.

      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for reaching out about your polyurea flooring odor issues. It's frustrating to face this after ensuring proper installation. Here’s what you can try: 1. Ventilation: Continue using industrial fans to improve airflow. 2. Inspection: Have the returning company check the mix and application. 3. Curing Process: Verify if the curing time was sufficient for your specific polyurea type. 4. Top Coat: Consider a different top coat that might block odors. 5. Reapplication: If necessary, re-grind and re-apply the coating. 6. Second Opinion: Getting advice from another flooring expert might also help. Persistent odors are uncommon and can be addressed with these steps. Keep us posted on your situation, and share any successful fixes to help others with similar problems.

      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel 2 місяці тому

      Thank you for sharing your concerns about the paint issues with your James Hardie siding. Paint peeling can be frustrating, and here are some steps to help address it: 1. Clean and Prep: Ensure the siding is clean and free from peeling paint. 2. Use Primer: Apply a high-quality primer suited for fiber cement siding. 3. Choose the Right Paint: Opt for a high-quality, 100% acrylic exterior paint. 4. Consult a Professional: Consider a professional inspection to diagnose and correct the paint failure. 5. Check Warranties: Look into any applicable warranties that might cover the paint issues. It's not necessarily a complete loss; with the right approach, your siding can be refreshed and protected.

    3-4k a square? lol my neighbor did Hardie Board siding as DIY project 10 years ago and it came out fine, they still look like new. It cost him less than $5000 to side the whole house. Hardie lap sidings are $14 a piece at Home Depot. 100 sqft "square" is around 16 pieces with 1/3 overlap. So $224 per square for materials + some change for plywood and Tyvek. And you are charging $3000 per square installed? Hardie board installation is not that technical, you just need good miter saw skills and be able to read installation manual.

      Thank you for sharing your neighbor's experience with DIY siding! You're right, doing it yourself can definitely save money if you have the skills and time. At Southwest Exteriors, the price range in the video, includes not just the materials, but also professional installation by trained experts, following local building codes, and a warranty that covers both materials and labor for as long as you own your home. This warranty means you won’t have to worry about fixing any future problems yourself-it's all taken care of. We know DIY might be the best choice for some homeowners. Why can’t I get fiberglass windows that are hurricane compliant? I have to buy an extra hurricane shutter on top of the window at great added expense.

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel 2 місяці тому

      Thank you for reaching out with your question! It’s a good one, especially when considering the safety features of windows in hurricane-prone areas. Here’s a bit of insight: The technology for creating fiberglass windows that are fully hurricane-compliant is still in development. Fiberglass windows offer many benefits, but when it comes to meeting the rigorous safety standards set for hurricane zones, they often require an additional layer of protection. That’s why additional hurricane shutters are commonly recommended or even required to ensure your home is adequately protected against strong winds and flying debris. The need for these shutters does add to the expense, but it's all about ensuring maximum safety and compliance with local building codes in areas that experience hurricanes. It's a crucial step in safeguarding your home, and we're here to help guide you through understanding these requirements and finding the best options for your needs.

      @@TheHomeSolutionsChannel yep. I’m buying the impervias with the hurricane screens. They are getting the measurements in 4 days. And I have a bad feeling that next year impervias will have a hurricane option. But I have installed and have seen vinyl windows in my neighborhood. And while they look nice at first it’s just a matter of time until they start looking off. Either the glass starts to look like a vacuum to another universe is pulling on them from inside the house or the vinyl starts to break down and get chalky. And in 20 years, well I have seen some really bad “forever vinyl windows” that get so brittle you can poke your finger through them. Fiberglass seems like the perfect choice in the gulf states in the hurricane zones. And I’m sure they will eventually make one but I have to buy new windows this year so I get to buy the extra shields or screens.

      So glad that it was helpful. That is what we have noticed the most, is there are a lot of people that pick up Hardie at a Home Depot and install it for half the price but then it doesn't last as long. A true Hardie installer should be certified to install it as it was intended from James Hardie. That's why we find ourselves ripping out a lot of Hardie and reinstalling it correctly. It's extremely frustrating for the home owner. Hi thank you for video. Could you tell me I’ve recently had an oak sash window replace because of road noise. I was advised that having an ova window with acoustic glass will stop the noise by at least 90% but this has not been the case. I’m unable to use the room for myself because of the noise. Would this be because it’s a bad fitted window or was I lied to with regards to replacing the old window seeing it’s probably only reduced the noise by around 5p10%.

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel 2 місяці тому

      Thank you for stopping by the channel! Sound reduction in a room depends on many things, not just the window but also the installation in the walls and the roof. Oak and special glass should help reduce noise, if indeed Oak was still the new window frame. However, if the window wasn't installed properly, especially if the gaps weren't filled correctly, it might not block sound as well as expected. Proper installation, from the walls up to the window is key to making sure you get the most noise reduction. And if you replaced a square window with an oval window then all that gap space needs to be meticulously insulated to ensure no additional sound comes in. I hope this helps and allows you a better idea of how your window was installed. If you want to share more detail please feel free and we are happy to help the best that we can.

    • @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
      @TheHomeSolutionsChannel 3 місяці тому

      Thank you for sharing your concern with us. It sounds like the water pooling around your house during rain could be contributing to the foundation issues you're experiencing. Water accumulation near the foundation can lead to soil expansion and contraction, which often results in cracking. I recommend checking your drainage systems, like gutters and downspouts, to ensure they are directing water away from your home efficiently. Additionally, you might consider consulting with a foundation repair specialist or a structural engineer who can assess the situation and suggest specific remediation actions. It’s crucial to address these issues early to prevent further damage. Please stay safe and let us know if you have any more questions!

      Your concern is warranted when it comes to the size of this project and it's price. Thank you for bringing this up!
